How To Pick The Perfect Song For Your Wedding Trailer

Your wedding trailer is a trailer for the rest of your married life. Shouldn’t it have a fitting soundtrack? Here’s how to find yours.

Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic. But it’s fun to think of your wedding trailers song as the soundtrack to your life! (shout out to Kid Cudi). Narrowing down all of your anthems can be a bit tricky, and it may seem daunting to choose *one* song out of that bangin’ wedding playlist for your wedding video trailer, that’s why we put together these tips to help that process.

Think back to your early dating days and what “your” song was.

Ahh yes, how different things were when the two of you first met! Meeting for the first time, going on your first date, making things “official”, and all the silly moments in between are often super nostalgic. How much simpler were things back then? Were there ever those days where you and your significant other were driving on a warm day with the windows open with both of you (or, maybe just one of you) belting out the lyrics to what later became your song.

If the two of you have your song, sometimes it’s only fitting that it becomes the song for your wedding trailer. But maybe if it’s WAP by Cardi B… you might just want to save that one for the car playlist.

Use your first dance song.

Don’t worry, it’s not cheating! Odds are that the song means something special to the two of you if you chose it to be the song for your first dance. If you’ve already submitted your wedding music to your DJ, then you’ve got your work cut out for you for selecting the song for your trailer. In fact, a large number of couples choose their first dance song for their wedding trailer as well.

Have some backups.

Although certain songs might hold a special place in your heart, they don’t always fit for your wedding trailer. Songs that are too fast, loud or are meant more for a Friday night out with the gals might not be the best choice for those slow cinematic shots of you walking down the aisle (we’re looking at you, Megan The Stallion).

So, always pick one or two backup songs for your wedding trailer so that your videographer can choose the best one for your trailer edit. Typically, most wedding videographers will ask for 2-3 songs so that they can narrow it down to the best one to fit the footage captured.

There’s no shame in a little Ed Sheeran.

Sometimes that redhead’s songs just hit us right in the feels, but he’s not the only one with those classic love songs! Here’s a list of some tried and true wedding trailer songs in case you’re still stumped.
