Why I Love Shooting Fall Weddings In The Hudson Valley

Having shot more than a hundred weddings during all times of the year, it’s no surprise that my favorite season is also my favorite time to shoot weddings. Here’s why I love shooting weddings in the fall, and why you’ll fall in love with a Hudson Valley autumn wedding too!

The foliage, duh!

The first and most obvious reason why I love shooting weddings during the fall is, of course, the foliage. Those magical hues of red, orange and yellow can make for some truly stunning photos and video contrasting with a white wedding dress. It’s no wonder fall is one of the most popular times to get married!

Foliage can be hit or miss, and is difficult to plan a wedding around due to varying temperatures year to year and season to season. However, foliage in the Hudson Valley tends to peak around early October. So keep that in mind when picking your wedding date!

The perfect temperature.

We’ve all been to that summer wedding where we’re sweating it out after taking bridal party photos in the sun or after busting a move on a hot August night. Fall weddings are like the goldilocks of weddings- not too hot, not too cold, just right.

That wedding tux or wedding dress can get a bit uncomfortable during a hot summer portrait session outside, but cooling things off with those 60º October temps is perfect wedding weather. In speaking of wedding attire…

Fall Fashion.

A fall wedding is perfect for incorporating some atypical wedding garments for a unique aesthetic for some fashionable photos. Fur accents, shawls, long sleeves, and even high-heeled boots are all great ways to capitalize on fall fashion for a unique wedding look.

The best fall flavors are in season.

Apple cider donuts after the wedding? Pumpkin spice-themed hot toddies? Yes, please! A fall wedding in the Hudson Valley is the perfect opportunity to enjoy all your favorite fall flavors and treats during your cocktail hour or Venetian hour.

Campfire after parties.

Sometimes you just need some low-key vibes to cap off a wedding day filled with friends, fun, and laughter. Those cooler evening temps are the perfect opportunity to sit by the campfire and wind down the day. Break out the marshmallows!
